Whole Piquillo Peppers

These sweet whole preserved Spanish piquillo peppers are grown under the hot Mediterranean sun in the Spanish province of Lodosa. These red chili peppers have a sweet, rather than spicy flavor. The name translates to "little beak" because of the peppers' dainty size and pointy shape. The flavor is mild and sweet, often likened to red or orange bell peppers. Piquillos grow about 2-3 inches long (about 7 cm) and are popular in small rooftop and window box gardens throughout Spain. These whole Spanish piquillo peppers from El Navarrico make an excellent colorful addition to tapas spreads, sandwiches, salads and more fresh dishes.
